An interesting topic.
Developments at Aurora are continuing - but are limited by the need for fiscal prudence to modest evolution, rather than the immediate implementation of grandiose schemes.
The Imperial Senate has been in abeyance since 1990, so there is presently no pressing need for the construction of a Senate House - although this is certainly on the agenda.
In the past year the following work has been undertaken:
* Completion of the restoration of the Scott Building (the current primary residence and administration building) in central Concordia.
* Installation of environmentally-sustainable off-grid sewerage.
* Installation of the base and three flagpoles of the Foundation Monument, on Capital Hill. The Imperial Tricolour now flies there whenever there are citizens in residence at Aurora.
* Laying of foundations for and subsequent erection of two new service structures - a third storage shed, and a second, larger workshop.
During the past week a substantial extension to the southern side of the Scott Building has commenced construction. This should be complete within the next two months.
At the present we are largely focused on creating sites that will serve to attract tourism while requiring only a modest initial cost outlay. The erection of commemorative monuments is an important part of this.
Within the current year we are likely to inaugurate three of them - the completed Foundation Monument on the northern side of Capital Hill, a commemorative column on the Roman model near the summit of Capital Hill, and a large obelisk commemorating the Constitution at the summit of Constitution Hill. Due to their elevated location there will be clear line-of-sight between each of these monuments, from many parts of Aurora.
Also on this year's agenda is the ongoing extension of paving, retaining walls and walled gardens on the southeastern side of Founders Square, and the installation of street signage at several key sites in Aurora.
Beyond that we are presently selecting the site of the Imperial Tribune and Throne Dais; initially we planned to construct a dedicated Throne Hall, but upon reconsideration we have decided that a roofed open-air dais will serve our ceremonial purposes more effectively - and impressively - at lower cost.
Photographs of some of the above can be found at the official Empire of Atlantium page on Facebook. More will be added as the various projects reach a level of completion that's worthy of public attention.
