It could be that I am not reading the information that is already available - if so, I apologise ... but why is HIM George the Second rather than George the First?

Aha! Thank you! ... and I admire the respect for the elders (being myself somewhat "elder").

There's a simple explanation here: www.atlantium.org/emperor.html...but in reality it's a bit more complicated. My titulary has evolved over time, but it's never actually been formalised by Decree. At the time I become Emperor I had been using the form "George Cruickshank II" as my personal signature, in honour of my paternal grandfather. This was entirely unrelated to Atlantium, as "George Cruickshank I" died several years before I was born, and a quarter of a century or more before Atlantium was founded. When I became Emperor of Atlantium I began using the style "Georgivs I", because - obviously - I am the first George to be Emperor. However, I found it unnecesarily bothersome to be signing "Georgivs I" for official purposes and "Georgivs II" for private ones - so in early 1982 I reverted exclusively to use of the latter. Over time, "Georgivs II" then became established as part of my titulary. To further complicate things I dropped the nominals from my signature altogether, in around 1987. Since that time my signature has simply been "Georgivs" - as it appears on the main page of the Atlantium website. Were my titulary to ever be formalised via Decree it would very likely take the form "Georgivs Primvs et Secvndvs" (George I & II) to account for the fact that Emperors George I and II are in fact the same person.
